About Me

Or, All you ever wanted to know about Clare, but were afraid to ask.

Clare is a British author. She lives in a small town just outside Reading, England with her husband, whom she married in 1992, their three grown-up offspring, Tilly the black cat, who is now 11 and Ty the black collie cross huntaway, who thinks he’s a lab and honestly looks like one. Ty is now 4.

Tilly
Ty who does not like me working. At all.

Clare is half English and half Welsh, which makes watching rugby interesting at times as it doesn’t matter who wins. Football on the other hand… The rugby becomes more complicated when we play Australia as some of the immediate family are Aussies. Which makes for a lively whatsapp conversation at times. 😉 She has a brother and two sisters, all younger, better looking and taller than her. She also has four nephews, who are all amazing as are her own children. Because she doesn’t want any of them to fight over who is more awesome.

Writing from an early childhood and encouraged by her teachers, Clare graduated from rewriting fairy stories through fan fiction to using her own original characters and enjoys writing an eclectic mix of romance, crime fiction and children’s stories. When she’s not writing, she can be found being sat on or breathed on by the dog, reading, crocheting or doing the many piles of laundry the occupants of her house manage to make. And cooking. She loves cooking proper dinners. From scratch.

Or she’s running off to the theatre as she loves musicals. So far she’s seen [in no particular order] Blood Brothers, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Annie, Sister Act, West Side Story, Les Miserable, Mamma Mia, the Lion the witch and the wardrobe, Dear Evan Hansen Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and probably some she can’t remember off the top of her head but will edit in later, assuming the editing page will actually load.

Her books are based in the UK, with a couple of exceptions, thus, although the spelling may be American in some of them, the books contain British language and terminology and the more recent ones are written in UK English.

She handwrites the first draft of every book, using two colours so she remembers which POV she’s in. Each book is cast with photos so the main characters don’t change eye colour or hair colour or even skin colour mid book. Don’t laugh. It’s happened. Not to me but in something I read a while ago.

Clare has been a Christian for more than half her life. She joined Carey Baptist Church in 1982, but recently became part of the new Carey Woodley, a morning church plant .

She, for some reason known only to herself, wrote this page in the third person. She loves watching TV. Current addictions are Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago PD, Grey’s Anatomy and 911. She’s heartbroken at the cancellation of 911: Lonestar and the recent episode of 911. Brit TV includes, Casualty, Line of Duty, and various quizzes, like Pointless, Bridge of Lies and House of Games. Past obsessions are Blake’s Seven and Stargate SG1.

She can be found at various locations around the place. Other than her house that is. Or the parentals house. Which is much bigger than her own. Also there is no dog there.
